Part of designing our marketing roadmap included making better use of media networking. Today we will be interviewing you and recording the footage for YouTube. Some of these will be shot individually and some will be shot presentation style in front of your website on a large screen.

If you didn’t get filmed last week… don’t worry… You are first this week! Last week we filled the room… let’s double it this week with guests !

This will be the practice run preparing you for the professional recording, posting the video’s on youtube for your use on your websites. You can see last weeks video’s by going to www.youtube.com/compliments2009 (Click see all and they are directly under the college ball game videos).

If you are looking to advertise with online video, it may help to think of it in a very similar manner as you would traditional television content, with respect to creative. Not much has changed in that department. Successful ads still must capture viewer interest and connect that to your brand.

What has changed is how you can go about getting that content out. As opposed to the limited television route, which only offers viewers a small (although certainly larger compared to that of yesteryear) amount of channels, online video means practically limited channels. There are tons of video sites out there beyond the well-knowns like YouTube and Hulu. Most of these video sites have tons of channels. Most of them also enable users to embed videos, so videos that are hosted on these sites can be posted at any site on the web. You can of course offer this feature if you host your own video as well.

Not everyone can afford a big budget to make a really flashy looking video ad. There are ways around this for businesses with small budgets. You don’t need explosions to have a good ad. There are plenty of indie films that are better than Transformers 2, if you catch my drift.

As we prepare to bring in a professional video crew, we will continue to record these interviews through the balance of December to give you some great material for 2010 and for Google . We will also be taking some still pictures so you can learn how to SEO your images and video’s.

We will have a workshop attending while each of you are getting filmed, so don’t be late and RSVP early – - Last week we did not have enough room with all the last minute attendees so please RSVP online atleast 24 hours prior to the meeting and make sure your guests do as well. We are happy to have more than expected, but want you to not have to sit on each others laps as well.

Link Building is a painstaking process which is always on going. To get your website high in the rankings you will need to constantly be building back links with things such as link exchanges, article submissions, directory submissions, press releases and social networking.

In this guide we will give you a few tips on the best methods to start off with link building.

Link Exchanges

Link Exchanges are a great way to get back links to your site from other sites with the same topic. This means that people who are visiting will be looking for a certain type of website which your site will be so they are more than likely to use your website to it’s full potential rather than browse for a minute and move on.

You can get Link Exchanges by browsing for sites in the same genre as yours and sending emails to webmasters saying why you think it will help their site to have reciprocal links on the 2 sites and will help generate traffic.

Article Submissions

If you write quality articles then people will want to read them. If you submit these to Article Directories then people will see how good your content is, and come over to your site to have a look at your other articles.

Make sure in the articles you have a link back to your site with the link text (anchor text) the keywords related to your site.

This is now doing 2 things, it is link building and helping with traffic back to your site when people click these links.

Directory Submissions

Submitting to web directories is a never ending task although it is probably the single most important way of link building. Make sure you start submitting your site to directories gradually rather than adding to 500 directories one day and then not bothering for a month. This is because Google and other search engines will think something fishy is going on if a site suddenly gets 500 backlinks.

The best thing to do is when you do it gradually is to add to say 100 directories to get you started and then every couple of days add to 20 more.

There are a lot of tools on the market for automatic directory submission but the best way is to add these manually because you never know what information a “bot” will use when it adds your site to all of those directories.

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of questions about how best to build your network on Twitter. I previously offered up some search strategies for finding your tweighbors. But after finding and following…where do you go from there? Not everyone finds jumping into the conversation that easy. And if you approach twits the wrong way you can end up being outcast as a marketer or spammer…or even worse in my opinion…BORING & SELFISH!

The best way I’ve found to foster community on Twitter is by being a community participant. If you want twits to interact positively with you, then you need to start by positively affecting others. But first, you better get organized.

TOOLS: One confusing aspect of Twitter is the noise factor! It’s true…there are plenty of uninspiring tweets. But maybe that’s because you’re not following the right twits.  When it comes to real estate, you often target market to a specific demographic. So if you’re investing time in building relationships online, consider taking more time to check out your twits before you follow. Before following, take a little time to glance at their profile, visit their Website, read their short bio or scan their recent updates. This gives you a better vision of WHO’s tweeting with you.

Once you gain a following…don’t be afraid to rely on a desktop app to better organize your community! Tweetdeck can easily assist in the categorization of your twits. And Peoplebrowsr is like Tweetdeck on steroids with a variety of group features for better targeting those with similar interests.

ACTIVE LISTENING: It might sound like a request from a first grade teacher…and you’re absolutely right! Active listening means you’re listening with your whole self….your eyes, your ears, your heart, your mind…no distractions! And, making mental notes along the way! By becoming a better listener you become a better communicator…making you more productive.  And if you learn to master your own communication skills, the easier it will be to leave lasting impressions on those you meet both online and offline.  And we all know how misunderstandings can occur from not being able to read someone correctly…especially with email or SMS.

So, you need to listen a lot! I do. In fact I’m lurking in the background and you don’t even know it. I’m taking it all in and thinking about how I can add to what’s being said or shared. I do this to gather details about those I’d like to connect with….so that connecting and communicating become more seamless than stuffy! Not to mention all the fun you’ll have learning about others!

TWEET IT FORWARD “TIF”: Active listening will afford you with the best option for building your network authentically….and that’s “tweeting it forward”.  When you listen to your followers you gain details (ladies…you know what I’m saying). Details give you insight into what your new friends like, dislike, need to know, want to learn, etc. So pick a time each day, to scan your followers tweets via Twitter itself or Tweetdeck categories. Better yet, use Twittersearch to find recent tweets related to your local area or interests. Once you’ve identified a couple of meaningful tweets…it’s time to access your resources (business and/or personal) and help!

Let me be crystal clear for a moment: the goal here is to share and add to the tweets you find meaningful. This is not thanking your retweeters. I’m specifically referring to helping those who haven’t helped you yet. For example, tweet about someone’s cause that you can also stand behind and help to spread the word. Answer twits with local questions that you can offer real advice for. If someone is looking for a specific resource for their business or is confused by something and needs a tip…be the one to kickstart their success or unscramble their confusion.  Even making a random Blip.fm dedication to a twit that’s having an off day can create viral happiness!

The more you surprise others with your helpfulness….the more lasting impressions you make. It’s that simple. And if you’re not sure…just ask yourself, “What would Chris Brogan do?”
